Brenda & The Big Dudes

A South African group formed in 1983 known as Brenda and the Big Dudes consists of six artists that are Brenda Fassie, Desmond Malotana, Dumisane Ngubeni, Rufus Klaas, David Mabaso, and Fats Mlangeni. Brenda Fassie was the Vocalist, Desmond Malotana and Dumisane Ngubeni used to play the Keyboards, Job Mlangeni who was known as "Fats" used to play Drum set, David Mabaso used to play Bass and the Rufus Klaas was Guitarist. The group was a four-member group with no lead singer. Initially, it was a backing band for another popular South African duo of Blondie & Pappa until a young Brenda Fassie was brought in as a lead singer. When Brenda was brought, the group detached from the popular duo and started doing their own shows and concerts. Later, Brenda and the Big Dudes started releasing their own tracks, which went on to become huge hits. Brenda and the Big Dudes Debut & Popular Songs In the year 1983, the group came into much-needed fame after releasing their debut maxi-single titled as Weekend Special. The single became popular and led to a positive response for the group from the audience, and came into the limelight. The single became the best selling record in South Africa with sales of over 200,000 copies. Brenda and the Big Dudes also achieved international prominence after their song “Weekend Special” which was remixed by another artist which is known as “Van Gibbs” in the year 1986. This Version of Weekend Special listed in the chart of Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs where it topped at #72 on 12th April 1986. It was ranked for over 8 weeks which was a huge achievement for the band. The group has been signed with many huge record labels such as Family Records, EMI, CCP Records, and many more.
