I only smoke American blues

Like my father they're spirits I talk to

And all my friends are giving up booze

And having babies

While I'm drunk in the afternoon

Grandma can't remember her plans

She's having trouble sleeping again

When she nods off she prays in her sleep

But with her memory

She won't know what it means

Suited for the worst of it

Yet does that 'cause me to miss

How do they love

How do they fall apart

How do they hope to look past their scars

Am I scared of all of it

This ain't the way I grew up in my head

And growing older has no deliverance
